HottBoxx was spawned from a jam session organised by Cajun UK, at The Crown Inn, Heather, Leicestershire early in 2000. HottBoxx is not a traditional cajun or zydeco band, but strives to be different by playing a blend of zydeco, swamp, blues, and a little rock 'n' roll. The influences are as diverse as Rosie Ledet, Keith Frank, Etta James, Lucinda Williams and Big Mamma Thornton!
HottBoxx was launched onto the world stage with a debut gig at the Crown Inn on Friday 15 September 2000, which prompted the following comments:
"The band have a nice mix of songs and will appeal to lots of different musical genres - one of the best debuts I have heard for a long time."
Mick Billings, review in Cajun Gazette, October 2000
"HottBoxx - although new to the scene are already causing quite a stir."
Chris Hall, Swamp Music Web Site
"Without question the best Zydeco band at the Gloucester Festival was HottBoxx. For a band to be this good so early in its career, promises great things as it grows in experience and maturity."
Tim Rutherford, review in Cajun Life and Times, April-June issue 2002
"They are one of the best British zydeco bands and certainly the most entertaining."
Ceilidh Mail, Broadstairs Folk Week, 13 August 2003
HottBoxx is back in action, and we are currently planning to record a new CD, which we hope to launch in the summer.
